Hi, all, I'm new to the forums, and to Logan Martin Lake. It looks more like a river where I am, rather than a lake.
These lake
level numbers are totally useless to me, and I can't find any site that
helps me out. I'm way up the lake, near Henry dam. My access road is
at level 474 and it's been flooded this week. They must take the
reading at the Logan Martin Dam, which does me no good at all. How convenient to take their readings at the lowest point. Any
ideas for me? Do I just need to add 8-10 feet to any reading ALPO
posts? My "full pool" appears to be about 470-472 before it gets into
the yard/grass. I'm using the topo/ flood maps (2 foot markings) provided to me by Alabama Power to see my heights.
The neighbors say that over the past 20-25
years, ALPO's constant erosion techniques and mismanagement of the river
(up, down, all turbines on, flush fast, up down, flush fast, etc.) have
eroded 25-28 feet of our property along the river. They have photos of
yard swings on dry land that is no longer there. Pilings from docks that were built after the dam was built are several feed underwater now, and show up when the river is really low. Is this some kind of
scam, they erode the river, steal our property, we pay $250 to buy a
"permit" to "fix" the damage they are doing to the river bank? And all the time they are making the holding area larger? They say the dirt that erodes from the banks is now in the lake bottom, keeping their "flood bucket" the same size, but as fast as they flush out up here, and as muddy as the river is, I seriously doubt that. Do they
have any accountability at all for their constant, deliberate erosion of
the river banks? Do their actions fall under state law, or is there a contract I can read?
I don't really mind all the ups/downs, but the speed they are flushing is worse than a pressure washer, or someone using a fire hose to remove gold from a muddy bank.

Paleo, I have often wondered how it must look up above I-20 a couple of miles or so. I can't imagine how swift the current is up there, all I can relate it to is what the lower side of LMD looks like when all 6 gates are open. I Don't know how you guys up in the " Narrows " keep a pier at all in times like these, based on the tree trunks that come by down here I bet there like battering rams up there.
As narrow as it is and the river only having 9 feet of fall ( I think ) between the dams on Logan Martin, probably be tough to figure up that way.

You are correct in the measurements being taken at the level of the dam on the lower end. I have always wondered how Lay Lake level only fluctuates 1 ft either way but when they release water from LM you can see it rise 6-8 ft and I would not be surprised if it was 20ft higher this past week.
As for looking for, finding and fighting APCO on the matter, you would be better off getting some toothpicks and shoving them under your finger nails
