I have Charter cable TV and internet. For the past week, I have lost my internet connection during the daytime. Their support people are extremely "well hidden" and when you are finally able to reach a real person...not much help. I have had appointments set up on three different occasions for a tech to come out.........did not show...did not call on ALL THREE occasions. I have another set up for Tuesday. In the meantime, while I am waiting for that no-show, just wondering if anyone else in the Paces Peninsula (County Rd. 34) area has Charter cable modem and losing service during daytime. My TV reception has been great....hardly ever an outage with it. I am very close to returning to dial-up. Any info appreciated........

i sign up for the six month introductory special biggest hdtv package about 35 bucks and high speed for about 20 bucks.
of course this will run out and those choices will cost about 150 per month after the intro offer.
so what i do is after five months i sign up for a new and different special and they let me keep the low rate.

Charter had a major system problem on their supply lines in the StillWaters area this week (they called it a "head end" or "header" problem). They finally figured out the problem yesterday and corrected it today. My internet service had been out since last Friday until this afternoon, so I feel your frustration. Their 1-800 tech support people (wherever they are) can offer no help in these situations because they are trained to assist with problems at the user terminal, not the supply lines. In the future, make contact with the local office (Alex City) to get updates on the situation and verify that they are working in your area. I checked with them every day this week and got information on the status of the work each time. Hopefully, they have gotten things fixed in our area and our signal will be uninterrupted for awhile.

My service has been out every day. I call and when the recording lady says lets try this I just start repeating " I want to speak to an agent " and it works. They are working on the lines somewhere.

Yep. We have been having the same problem. When I came home tonight, I saw a truck at one of the stations. Hopefully, they fixed the problem.

Thanks, jd...........very good info....I have not been able to come up with a working number to the AC office since they started re-routing all calls to the 866 number....I should have posted this earlier and I would have just been patient and waited for it to be fixed.......thanks again!

I spent 20 minutes on the phone yesterday before I got a human. The human told me a couple of helpful things. To get to a human say agent four times at the beginning of the recording and you will be put through. When I complained about the service over the past months and the lack of knowledge of the techs, he gave me a number to call to file complaints--866-212-1063. The tech service is handled by an independent company (five guys own and work as techs) from Sylacauga--service leaves a lot to be desired. Call the number above--let's see if it'll help.
By the way, I live off Hwy 34, also.

Bigfoot, have you tried to get into the porperties of your cable modem?? I have had this problem many times at different places and most of the time I found it to be defective modems. Charter will tell you that it is ok . Tell me what brand and model modem you have I maybe I can help you.

I am in the Sandy Creek area and have Charter cable and internet. My internet has been fine but the cable quality is continually unpredictable, especially the digital package channels. I too have found it extremely difficult and frustrating dealing with Charter personnel whether it's tech support in West Virginia, face to face conversations with someone in the Alex City office or talking to one of their local technicians on the phone. My opinion is that Charter's administrative personnel are extremely unprofessional and their technical force is either untrained or just incompetent. Whether it's intentional or not, the fact is they look you 'straight in the eye' and tell you a lie. Having personal character is obviously not a requirement for employment at Charter.
I know this doesn't fix your problem or mine, but you can see there are many of us who 'feel your pain.' Without competition, there is not a lot of recourse for us other than venting!

I own my own modem. It is an RCA Model DCM245R with the ethernet connection......I occasionally have to do the start/run/winipcfg and change the configuration manually (as opposed to rebooting). I believe my problems are tied in with the repair work being done (and hopefully completed) as mentioned earlier in this thread. Thanks!

Your encounters with Charter support sounds identical with mine. Your service problems are the reverse of mine--great TV, erratic internet. I also use C-Band satellite with the 4DTV receiver (dig. + analog) for part of my programming. I have not seen anything that can rival the picture I get with C-Band and being able to maintain it myself means never a bad day.

You may be right. I just fixed a persons that was told the same exact thing though. He had been on the phone with charter many times and they said the problem was being corrected. After 2 weeks he called me and I just went to the local charter here in AC and they give me a new modem. You said you owned yours so that option is out. Here is a webpage that helps with yours. The modem does not even have to be connected to a pc to make a diagnosis, just watch the lights.
