Does anyone know if there are many kids living in Stillwaters? I'm considering selling my place in Auburn and moving. I wonder if my 4 year old would have anyone to play with...
Sidenote: Anyone know anything about Dadeville schools.

Dadeville Schools are good but it's not the place to raise a kid. When they get older there is nothing for them to do. Some people might not agree though. Don't take my word for it. I wouldn't do it.

We live in Stillwaters and have a 7-year old boy. I think there's a fair amount of kids in the community, but there's not much interaction since everybody has busy lives. Maybe you'll get lucky and have some playmates for your child next door or down the street - we don't. As for schools, we work in Auburn and opted to send our boy to Lee Scott Academy - we didn't want to be 30 miles from our child during the work day. I can't speak to the quality of Dadeville public schools. I can say that Stillwaters is a great place to live, we enjoy it, and don't regret moving there.

I suggest you compare Dadeville schools with Auburn schools. And there is a lot more info on the internet than the site below.

Wow, great info.
Auburn City-average ACT 23 Tallapoosa County-average ACT 18
I also thought it was interesting that both systems had 19 reported safety incidents with Auburn having almost twice as many students in attendance.
Thanks for the link.

And you will get a similar result comparing any university district with nearby districts. btw, state average was 20. When the parents care about education, results follow.

Actually, although there is a difference for Auburn School System (23.1 ACT) vs the state of Alabama (20.8), the Tuscaloosa School System (20.3) is actually worse. I think Auburn is just a unique place. However, Stillwaters is soooo hard to argue against. I love that place.

Yeah, sorry not buying the "university town" excuse. Mobile County has three university/colleges and has an ACT below average (19), while Baldwin with no higher Ed (unless you count Faulkner State) has a 21.

Come on people. Go to the census stats and look under demographics. Your answer is very simple. BTW, Auburn schools will be much better than Dadeville.

Stripe,
What's an average weekend like for the kid? Do you guys hang around the lake, or go to Auburn for kid stuff? Is there any kid stuff around the lake, other than the boat, water, and when he gets older, Chimney rock?

Prox, Seems like my boy has a birthday party to go to in Auburn once or twice a month. Other than that - Friday night is movie/pizza night for us, Saturday he plays with our dogs, his legos, and some limited nintendo. When it's warm he fishes with me. Sunday he goes to Mass with Mom while I fish. He seems happy and well adjusted.

*Looking at the big dipper/little dipper/full moon in a star filled sky. *Camping out on an island in the middle of the lake, cooking hotdogs/smores. *Learning to waterski/wakeboard/tubing/swim. *Fishing/Boating. *Hiking/biking on the trails and in the woods around the lake. *Learning to play golf. And the list goes on and on. We learned we could "import" the friends our children wanted to have over.
