You had to feel sorry for McConnell yesterday when he temporarily blanked out on camera.  He's 81, he's been falling a lot.  I read that he had polio as child, so he is probably suffering from post-polio syndrome. I read in the news this morning that he sometimes uses a wheel chair to get around.  Clearly, it is time for him to go, as well as a lot of other geriatrics that are clinging to their positions like it's the last supper.

We really need to get serious about voting these old people out of their jobs.  If they can't decide for themselves, they need the voting public to do it for them.  Realistically (and perhaps a bit idealistically) they are passing law and making policies for the future that they will never live to see.  Diane Finestein looks like she died and was brought back to life.  So many of them are in their 80s.

We need term limits and failing that, we need to take it upon ourselves, as voters, to impose term limits.  When they serve a long time, they get locked into the party politics and not the opinions of their constituents.  They get in the beltway and get insulated from the real world.

We could make a long list of politicians that overstay their health issues.  Power and money are huge motivators.  I have mixed feelings about term limits.  They need to be long enough to prevent even more power getting into the hands of the staff, which already have too much anyway.  It really should be up to the voters to say enough is enough but the strength of incumbancy is pretty stout.  If we limit the Senate to three terms (18 years) and nine terms for the House (18 years) that would work for me.  The ironic thing is most of these yahoos are in safe states and districts and would be replaced by another politician from the same party.  So for the most part it is about those close to the specific elected official that benefit the most from lack of term limits.

I would settle for a mandatory retirement age so 70, 72 at the oldest.  They force them on others, they should live with them.

I agree with you.  But I also like term limits - the first couple of years of the first term are lost in figuring out how things work.  So two full terms after that seems reasonable.

Senate term is 6 years so two times would be 12 years.....which is probably enough.  POTUS only gets 8.  I'd also be OK with 12 years for the House.
