Italians NEVER held a monopoly on US criminal enterprise. It was just easier for the keystone cops to identify, and group them, because of last names ending in a vowel. Then, with that grouping, the feds could paint a picture of this vast underworld conspiracy that needed immediate and sustained attention and massive taxpayer funding. That was all back before "profiling" was unconstitutional.
