What are the recommendations for securing boats hanging on lifts?

Thanks

I thnk that would depend on the strength of your lift, the weight of your boat, the value of your boat, how protected your dock is from the NE winds, and how much of a chance you are willing to take. In a very strong wind (which will most likely come out of the NE), the boat/lift will swing dramatically.

One that I know of broke a cable in Frances and that caused the boat to be launched aft end down, into the water. The owner was there to remedy the situation right away and prevent further damage.

Ivan is bigger and more powerful than Opal was - we all remember Opal. It just doesn't pay to take any chances.

Keep in mind that while the most recent update to the path of Ivan takes it west of Lake Martin, the northeast quadrant of the storm tends to have the higher wind gusts, rain, and tornado spinoffs. Don't be caught off guard!

My pontoon is also swinging from ceiling. I am tying it on all corners with double or tripple ropes. The extra ropes are tied to the shed posts and not to the cleats. Am raising a bit higher above the water in case of waves. Have of course lowered the top and will tied it down to the pontoon itself. I am removing my cover also because it will likely be damaged in any high winds.

Be mindful it could blow off the lift if not tied securely to the dock.

Also have my boat insurance company number handy.
