Lake Martin: Alabama's Crown Jewel By Elizabeth Shaffer

This is the latest book on the lake that I have been reading. Pretty interesting book on the history and growth of the lake. One section I found especially interesting tells of the growth in the 80's and 90's. It gives a chronology of the different magazines that featured Lake Martin starting the early 90's. Once you see all the different articles in national magazines you will no longer wonder where the growth spurt came from or why. I knew that LM had been featured recently in some national magazines, but was little surprised at the quantity listed.

Most of the book can read online at the link below. There may be other places to read the entire book. There is also a copy of the 1941 bridge that most of us have seen. She cites it as being caused due to drought. (pg 133). ON page 98, however, there is picture from south of the dam looking north that says it shows the normal draw down. This was obviously taken before the present 10 foot rule went into place.

I just thought I would share with those interested in LM history.

The pics I talked about are not include in that preview. I saw them in the book and went looking online for them last week. I found them somewhere, but not at that site. I looked at this site and several others and then went back today to get the link. I didn't think to make sure that it was the one with the pics. I should have realized it because what I saw them in was a .pdf file and this is not pdf. I will keep looking and post the proper link with the aforementioned pics when I find it.
