Does anyone know what the truth is about the lake level? Is there any chance it will get back to full pool next summer. I heard there is no way?

I don't have any hard facts, but the level has to stop falling first (which it has not done) and then we need massive rains now or in the spring. It is getting so low that there is no way to recover in just one year.

Just my opinion

Although NOBODY can say to 100% certainty that it will fill next year, it has nothing to do with the level it is now, or is going to go to. It depends on one thing, and that is RAIN.

Once again, I will point out that this lake used to be have 50 foot draw down, then it went to 30, then to the current 10. It filled EVERY year even after 50 and 30 foot pulls. So no doubt it CAN refill from current levels, if it rains.

There was enough rain THIS year to have filled the lake had anyone known how bad the drought was going to be. Every spring MUCH more water flows into the lake than it takes to fill it. APCO has a fill schedule that is dictated to them. They must follow it, so any excess water is passed though and used to generate with. I think the 'rule curve' will be pretty much thrown out the window next year and as much of that excess water will held as is feasible.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON RAIN.

I surely hope this happens. I do wonder if with current water use all along the rivers, a 30 foot drawdown would be feasible today.

Sure it just not needed. In those days there were no satellites to watch weather patterns so flood control was hold it all back and let it go slowly. That coupled with the fact that APCO now has many more facilities generating power than in those days, make it unnecessary to pull down so much.

It is also the reason this lake was deemed worthless for so long. The entire lake literally dissapeared every year.

I saw it go down 18 feet one year back in the mid to early 70s and the rains came and up it went.... full pool in the spring.

.. saw it flow over and around the dam in 1980!! It's all about the rain folks. When the rain comes, the lake fills. In the mean time folks, downstream need water too. And guess what? As long as there is water in Lake Martin, folks downstream WILL get the water they need too.

Talked to a great old gentleman that saw it down 58 feet. I asked him how much he'd seen it rise in a short period of time and he said he saw it rise 17.5 feet in a week.

Unfortunately, the drought is forecast to continue through the spring, so things will get much worse, before we see any relief.

476 feet down was the lowest since 1960, according to this APC chart. See note on right side at bottom.

I agree 100% but filling is one thing ,maintaining that level is another. All the tributaries won't recover for sometime.

This is true. Not to mention the water table in general. We have always had wet spots in our slough in the winter due to springs bubbling up all over the place. This year we can walk every inch, there are no springs.
