There was a post earlier this month about property taxes. I just ran across a reminder that in November 2006 the citizens of Alabama approved an amendment to require ten mills of property tax as the minimum for all school systems. Elmore County was previously 7 mills, so that is why your taxes jumped so much this year. Tallapoosa was already 15 mills, Coosa was 12 mills.

Yes, plus the reappraisals plus the fire fee for residential service increased from $25 to $50 per household. BTW, our ad valorem tax on personal property (cars, boats, RVs, -things for which you buy a tag) will also increase the additional 3 mills - not as significant unless you have some high dollar boats, cars, motor homes, etc.
