When we bought our place on Parker Creek 18 years ago, we were assured that the water was so clean that we could "almost" drink it.
Anybody got any good data on the curent condition of our water??

Mack, in general, you are in luck. You're in the cleaner end of the lake--the furtherest from municipal wastewater discharges and mother natures non-point discharges from her watersheds. Unless your neighbors are polluting the water from their dump'in or chem'im their lawns, you should be in good shape. I've tested water quality across this lake and you are in a great location.

I have drank gallons of it from that area, but not in recent years, and none on purpose!! I grew up right beside Veazeys Marina. Arnold is correct that that is the cleanest area of the lake. That is the ONLY thing I miss from that side.

Thanks for your responses. I was concerned about all the new development and septic tanks.

I'm concerned about those all around the lake, too. If not done right and maintained, lake water quality will suffer the consequences.

I know of a septic tank with an "overflow" pipe that dumps directly into the lake. Additionally there is another place in a trailer park near this same location that trickles really nasty smelling water constantly, even during the drought. Tallapoosa county health official says she's too busy with new construction to investigate. Tripled taxes, yet no county sense of urgency for a health hazard.

I bet if you sent the County Health Dept. a letter with copies furnished to the County Commissioner and a few other places she would find the time to investigate your concern.
