Just went to the web site and found out my assessment is up 21% over last year but I still would not sell for anywhere near the assessed value.

Check the year. I don't think they have posted 2008 values...

You might be right about the tax bill but the assessment is definitely 2008 and is up 21%. I found this on a private web site that is linked to the tax collectors site and will try to post a link later.

Just showing my age - you are correct - all numbers on the site are for 2007 - maybe I will not have a 21% increase in 2008!!!

I sure hope not. Boy those County GIS sites are really confusing. And sometimes the tax assessor has a site that furnishes similar info. Kinda fun to look at everyone else's values to compare to yours though.

What I have noticed is that generally the lake counties are not very accurate with their appraisal of lots. It's all about water & view but you wouldn't know it from the assessments. Good for big water/views, bad for cove lots. You might base an appeal on that.

And you should look at comps in your area too. You might be surprised at the price cuts. That 21% may have dissappeared. Counties always undershoot on the way up and overshoot values when the market turns down. That's when you should appeal.
