Anyone know a good place to anchor, light and drop minnows for crappie in the area of Real Island Marina? I understand they are good now at about 18-20 ft.
25 years ago we used to fish the s-inlet to Okachoy.. year round and deep and load up on crappie.

People are still catching them at O Creek.
I don't know a special spot near Real Island, but, if you fish at night, in deep water, that means you are not back in a slough, but nearer to a channel.
Watch your rear end! And, don't become another victim of nightime boating accidents. See thread earlier.

I've never heard it called an S-Inlet but that is exactly what it is and my parents used to night fish there too. They called that place "under the power line". That line carries power from Tallapoosa County to the Coosa County side. That island on the Coosa County side was called Tate Island, named after a Senator Tate who owned the deeded Coosa County land back in the 1950's and sold it as Tate Development.

However, Mack is right... There is no way I'd float a boat there at night this day in time. You never know what will be flying around the corner.

Best Regards

The only way that I would anchor at night would be if I could find a place with a nearly vertical bank so that I would not be out in the middle where I would be a prime target. If you are familiar with "the round house", that would be a good place to start. If you are not, it is the steel frame of a house up near the water intake that has been incomplete for as long as I can remember, and that is pushing 40 years. It is one of the few steep and deep locations past Real Island, and it is set back from the main lake so that you have some measure of safety from night cruisers.

Thanks for all the advice and tips.. I'll take them all to heart.
I will certainly wait for a moonlit night and I will not be out in the middle somewhere.
But, even still night boat mishaps did happen way back then ... I can remember a few, but the situation was different..
