we have purchased a waterfront lot on upper Rock Creek and wondered if the water is safe and suitable for our grandbabys to swim in. We were able to pull up some earlier controversy on some negative water reports, but have not located anything recent. The water seems a brackish color. Any help appreciated.

The water in the lake is probably good enough to drink.

Now if it appears brakish and you're in upper Rock Creek... maybe you're right about where the water level is at... just approaching being dry? Seasonal lot? I don't know... I'm sure it's just fine.

Thanks so much for the info. We are on upper Rock Creek, but have year round water. The brackish color could be due to shallow mud bottom.

Quality of Lake water varies from section to section of the lake. Check with Alabama Water Conservation, they keep statistics on water quality around the lake. The Smith Lake Advocacy goup also has some stats. Once a year Smith Lake Advocacy, in conjunction with Auburn University, holds a one-day course (usually in April) at Meek High School in Arley on how to take and analyze water samples. you could be the water sampler for your area. i'm sure you and the grand kids will enjoy the lake for many years to come.
