Elections aside, I am so disgusted with Congress. I'm ready for them all to go home and for us to start fresh. Every day a bipartisan group of them come to the microphone and say "we're close, we're close". Now the new goal is to have it "ready for the floor" in ime for the opening of the foreign markets. Instead of wasting time saying "we're close" why don't they just get it done.

I am especially disappointed in Nancy Pelosi. She promised "tough new leadership" and it's not happening. And either Obama or McCain could have demonstrated leadership instead of just talking about it. Usually in a crisis, a leader will step forward and get the support of others. I have a feeling these two were behind closed doors with their parties moaning how this was going to cost them the election.

And I understand that the newest plan calls for an "oversight committee"... We all know what happens when things get done by Committee. And everyone knows that committees have to have staff to get the work done. Ah, the sound of new jobs being created in Washington.

The can always call Obama ("I told them to call me if they need me") .... I am sure he can use his 143 days in congress to look back on to give advice. Or maybe he can ask Raines that used to run Fannie Mae and got $90 million dollars in bonuses and golden parachute for his great work before he was booted out ... now he is a lead Obama advisor. The man certainly knows who to associate with for advice.

...on both sides of the aisle. It is hard for me to believe Franks or our own Shelby didn't know how bad things were, yet they ignored everything till it blew up in their faces. Just being a conservative - not a Rep. or a Dem. - I also had hope that things would change with the Democratic shift. Didn't happen. And, you are very right - all weekend we had press conferences that things were 'close', and both sides were lying through their teeth. Even this morning when they had a test vote, it was so close...there is no concensus.

Apparently there were enough votes (Dem and Republican) until Pelosi opened the vote with a partisan rant about the very people she was asking to come together in a bipartisan way to pass this legislation. Needless to say they didn't appreciate her blaming them for something the Bush administration and numerous Republicans in Congress warned the Dems would happen in 2004 hearings on Freddie/Fannie. She might be the most incompetent speaker of all time!

The fact is she needs some Republicans so she can provide cover for some Democrats from conservative districts that want to be able to vote no. According to a number of them from conservative districts they are getting hammered at home for supporting what amounts to nationalization of a segment of our financial markets.

Now she has two choices: Find a way to mend fences with the very people she insulted or twist the arm of the Dems that are at risk. She is such an incompetent bonehead!

You need to find a youtube video from a 2004 hearing chaired by Franks about a report issued by the regulatory agency that oversaw Fannie and Freddie. It will be an eye opener because this collapse was predicted and Democrats on the committee blocked needed reform and oversight despite pleas by Republicans. They actually spent most of the time attacking the messenger.

She is the "most" incompetent speaker of all time. Even if she wanted to get her partisian BS in ... she should have waited until after the vote. You are correct that the republicans have been warning of this and trying to fix it for some time as the dems shot it down. Partly because their pockets were being lined with contributions and they wanted to say the republicans were trying to restrict homeownership to only the wealthy. Not they wanted to restrict it to those that could afford it.

Now the people they wanted to help with this are losing their homes and because this bailout failed will be losing jobs and wont be able to get any credit.

This is a F-ing mess and the democrats have themselves to blame and are trying to point fingers when the record is clear who failed to act when the republicans tried to fix it before it got to this point.

Unless something is done ... forget about the stories we heard of the Great Depression ... we will live it and it will be much worse due to the size of our economy right now.

Yup, Pelosi blew it. Wonder if they'll hold another press conference to tell us all how close they are to a solution.

Its amazing to me that they claimed as early as last Thursday that the deal was done....there was never an approved deal despite the lies. I can't imagine what will happen next but maybe Pelosi can strong arm some of the 95 Dems that voted no to change their votes. I doubt she can because they are worried about losing their seats.

but anybody who voted just because they didn't like what she said is doing more harm than her. They're all like a bunch of kids wanting to show up the other side, and they're forgetting the big picture: the people.

I have heard from several Republicans and they indicated that what Pelosi's speech did was to confirm their vote against the legislation and that actually it impacted a few Dems to vote no. Here we have Pelosi talking about 8 years of failed policies and that Bush has not done one thing right in all those years. And then she actually has the moronic nerve to then ask them the vote with the guys she just lambasted. Tell me what about that makes any sense at all?!?!?!

This is why used car dealers have higher approval ratings than Congress. It is being lead by a complete, unmitigated moron.

She's a moron, but not as big a moron as those who let her words and actions decide for them. If they want to stick it to her, fine, but find a way that doesn't stick it to me, too.
