Are there garbage collection centers around Lake Martin? Any county
What about dump/landfills for old furniture and appliances?

Before you get too involved in moving appliances and furniture, consider the Tallapoosa County Personal Property Recycle Center if you are in an appropriate area. In my case, it is the end of my driveway.
I have put grills, old window a/c, floats, busted noodles, a table and who knows what else at the "Center" and they are gone, sometimes before I can get back to the cabin. I always figured if they weren't gone before I came back I'd figure out how to move them. I've occassionaly put a "free to a good home" sign on them, but everyone seems to know what they are as soon as they show up.......

It all ends up at my neighbors house, now I know where he's getting all the junk.

There's a landfill open to country residents off Highway 49 a couple of miles south of State Road 14. It's well marked. If you go, take a credit card or a check; they won't accept cash. And they won't accept old refrigerators unless the compressor has been removed.

Copied from the Elmore County web site: There are two transfer stations in Elmore County that will accept household and lawn trash. There is a transfer station in Flatwood and in Central. The stations are open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Saturday. For more information, call Sunflower Waste toll free at 866-252-0458. ADDED: Advanced Disposal now operates the sites but the telephone number is the same.

Picks up. They take anything but "tars".

Thanks everyone for the responses... I called Alex City and they said that Tallapoosa County has a sanitation landfill but it is in Tallassee. I'm surprised there are not more public places to dump but I've not had this much trash due to cleaning out the boathouse. I normally drive trash back to Birmingham because it is never more than a couple of bags.

I've been told that there is a landfill on 22 going towards Rockford but I don't know if you have to have a Coosa County tag or what the fees are otherwise. If anyone tells you ther is one in Central ( or Santuck...I can't remember) off of hyw 9 don't bite. There are a couple of huge green dumpsters and they wanted $80 dollars for my pickup load...I left and drove to Columbiana ( before I knew about the 22 one).
