I wasn't aware that there was an Office of the President-Elect...that is what was on the podium at BO's press conference today. What the heck?

I didn't see this on TV ... but is it possible that the press conference was held at the office that BO is using for his transition? That would mean that the press conference was held at the President Elects office .... not that there is a position called The Office of President Elect ..... just saying ?

If you go to MSNBC or any news site you'll see the picture. I just thought it was curious, lol.

And I should have made one other point .... if the press conference WASN'T held at BOs transition offices, then I agree that the banner was .... if not inappropriate ... it was at least weird.
Thanks

I am puzzled. In the past I thought the President Elect just kind of laid low and did his transition planning before he was sworn in. I'm not sure this is appropriate.

I saw the same thing and I know I have never seen that before. My first thought was can his ego get any bigger. He struggled without his teleprompter big time.
This is going to be a long and sad 4 years.

we agree. :) You are right on the mark. I have never seen a "press conference" about issues two days after the election. I will give him credit that he said until Jan 20 that the "current administration" is still in charge, but he is working closely with them. I am sure they will value his depth of experience on all issues.
I also thought the response to the question on intelligence was interesting. First he should not have tried to respond, but i will cut him a break as he will be "groomed" like every other president ... but what i found interesting is he said - the quality of the intellegence has improved greatly (how does he know that?), but there is still room for further improvements (how does he know that too?).

I heard he got the same daily intelligence briefing as the President, and also didn't I hear he had a meeting with the head of the CIA? I assume that he drew those conclusions from those events. I guess that unless Senators are on the Senate sub-committee for Intelligence, they don't routinely see the really good (but highly classified) intelligence.

WW, you were obviously not paying attention for the last two years. Under Obama, the skies are always blue, the sun always shines, the grass is greener, the world is one happy place changed simply by the force of his hope, the planet cools, the ice thickens, sea levels don't rise and the intelligence data that Bush relied on with Iraq is suddenly better. I don't know if he really believes his own press releases and what he read on the teleprompter or just counts on the half of the country that voted for him to believe it because they are mind-numbed products of government schools (or dropped out of gov't schools) and the mainstream media is too corrputed by their ideolgical bent to reveal the truth.
One thing for sure, it is going to be an entertaining and sad four years. I just hope not distasterous......

I don't think that is what he meant. The quality of the intelligence really increases as the classification goes up. I'm betting that he has seen some of the highly classified intelligence pictures and the quality of the detail is astounding. You would be blown away. And it is getting better all the time. Under Clinton, some intelligence sources were not encouraged, so that left us vulnerable. I have read that they have been fixing that problem ever since 9/11. You just can't fix it over night. Also, in Bob Woodwards book, he alludes to some new intelligence methods/technology that Special Forces is using that is incredible. From what I have read, the majority of the intelligence that was the foundation for invading Iraq was human intelligence, and the source did not have the access he claimed. I believe there were also pictures, but they misinterpreted what it showed. It's best when you can collaborate from mulitiple sources.

Uh I think it was the other way around on the intelligence that led up to Iraq. They had very little humint and relied on photographs and other electronic means. Recall Colin Powell's slide show.

You are right about the Humit. They had the one source whom they thought was reliable, but turned out he didn't know anything and made stuff up. Clinton basically descimated the humit. I remember reading that they had photos, but they were misinterpred because they didn't have an humit to back them up.
