"Cooling Towers the Answer for Higher Smith Lake Levels, Alabama Power Company Admits.
Limiting the amount of water that may be released from Smith will prevent Gorgas Steam Plant from being able to operate. Alabama Power would be required to design, construct and operate cooling towers at the
Gorgas Steam Plant". This statement was copied from SLISA's web site today.

Why has it been so difficult for APC to be truthful with SLISA and property owners on Smith Lake. It has been theorizzed for the past few years that the Gorgas Plant cannot operate without the massive releases from Smith Lake during the hot months. Thee truth is finally out. Cooling towers appear to be the solution to the extreme water fluctuations on Smith Lake.

It's time for APC to mosey up to the bar and do what a good corporate citizen would do. The citizenry of this area understaands what has been going on. It's time for them to stop playing games.

And, by the way - since TVA is lowering electricity prices because of lower fuel cost, why would APC not consider the same?

I wish you would quit whinning about the lake level. Alabama Power "owns" the lake and they could drain it completely if they wanted to. Why spend millions on building cooling towers when you have the lake to do the job and can create hydro electricty also.

If you don't like their rules, move!!!

Show me a document that APC "owns" Smith Lake! If there is ownership, there must be a documernt. Whey waste time with FERC. Why doesn't APC just tell FERC to stop this crap about a permit since APC owns the lake.

Get real! If you think that APC could drain Smith Lake because they "own" this body of water, you are obviously not serious. If this is your real thought process, I'll bet that I could sell you some ocean front property in Montana.

You've got to be kidding. If you don't want to hear/read discussions on lake level, why don't you find another forum to read.

I'm amazed that people take up for APC. This company doesn't have the welfare of the citizens of this state, let alone the lake, in mind. We are told we have cheap power, which may or may not be the case. But at what cost? Mercury in our lakes, rivers, groundwater, soil and ultimate in our food. Health care costs due to all the crap they are spewing in the air. God knows what else we are inahaling or what else is going into our water and soil.

Some times you have to take a stand and I am glad that SLISA has taken one on this. I just wish someone or some group would take a stand and challenge them on their abuse of the natural resources in this state.

You have'nt been in America long have you? Let me guess you voted for Obama, and believe the government will take care of you. Wise up, it's our lake, either get on board and help keep it ours or get off our lake.

I would address you by name but for some reaon you don't have one.

You should read APC's reoprt under the SLISA proposal they would make more hydro power that's right more hydro power.
If they can do what they want then why are they going to FERC for approval. The facts are clear Gorgas is not an
approved purpose of the hydro license. To think moving is the answer is actually the problem. I guess you think it was wrong to throw the Tea overboard or wage war with England. We are law abiding citizens but enough is enough.
