So long Arlen, you will no longer be the useful idiot RINO giving Dems cover with your vote. As usual the mainstream media is wrong as they want to cast Specter as a "moderate" Republican. He is a liberal in sheep's clothing and has always been a liberal. Also laughable is his rationale for changing parties. He knew he had no support from Republicans in the primary and was headed to defeat to Toomey. Now we can have Toomey coast to victory in the Republican primary and watch the food fight on the Dem side.

My prediction is as follows: Toomey wins the Republican primary easily. Specter, no longer of any use to the Dem's, loses the Dem primary. Specter decides to run as an Independent ala Lieberman and splits the Dem vote. Toomey wins......

Either way conservatives win because we no longer have to bear Dem's having cover for their awful lawmaking by garnering votes from the RINO Specter. Now it will be interesting to see if his "principaled" vote against card check gets reversed as he panders to big labor.....this one is a gimme.....of course he will "see the light", now that he is no longer shackled to the Republican party.

MM - I hope your prediction is correct, but it is risky during the interim. I would think Specter negotiated assurances to slide through the DEM primary. If that is the case, and the economy moves upward in 2010, he along with many other DEMs will win. I am concerned the risk is very high the DEMs will increase their majority numbers. I have always voted REP and plan to continue to do so because they are the closet to fiscal conservatives (makes me sick to use that term based on their spending in recent years). I wish I would see some indication of genius in the party that would give confidence of a quick rebound.

But let's face the reality of our current situation. Other than card check, with RINO's like Specter, Snowe and Collins, Dems already have a de facto filibuster proof majority in the Senate and they don't need a single Republican vote in the House to pass whatever they want. With RINO votes they can claim an element of "bipartisanship" and cast part of the blame for their awful legislation on Republicans. Now they don't have that cover. They own this lock, stock and barrel and it will be a disaster.

They can only blame Bush for so long and assuming they continue to overreach (because they foolishly do not believe we are still a right of center country) it will eventually cause Americans to wake up and at least restore us to divided government. Don't get me wrong, I am not predicting Republicans will gain control of either the Senate or the House in the mid terms. In the Senate we have many more seats to defend. I do believe we will make more progress than we would otherwise if they didn't overreach.

As for my prediction, maybe its wishful thinking.......but it is plausible.
