Y'all must be watching the Michael Jackson memorial...

I just caught a glimpse on CNN -- looks like they force his poor daughter up on stage

I have surrounded myself with a cone of media silence, a personal blackout so to speak. Michael Jackson was a very talented person but also deeply warped by his experiences in life. The adulation and coverage speaks more about our strange, celebrity-obsessed culture than anything else.

I hope this all dies down soon so we can return to more serious matters like whether the Pittsburgh Steelers can win another Super Bowl this year. I welcome the abuse from Cleveland Browns fans.......

personally, I found it all rather tiresome. I don't think John Lennon got this much attention when he was murdered.

Oh Ouch. Sounds like you had a full day. Kids have a way of reminding us that "yes, we really are that old".

After all the media, I was surprised no one suggested the flag should be lowered to half mast.

Probably only because they didn't think of it. Or maybe declare a national holiday. One piece of the endless coverage that I caught was someone saying that MJ was the "greatest entertainer who ever lived"... Pu-leeze.

I am not taking anything away from MJ and that he was a talented artist. But think of the other entertainers that died the same day and barely a peep other than annoncing on the news that they passed. My wife and I were talking about all this media coverage and why? Other than the "Thiller" album which was early in his career and made him ... he did not have block buster albums one after another. I can think of several other artists that fall in this category that passed and you did not see anything like this before. I almost feel it was his promoters putting on one last show to drive sales of existing albumn. I feel bad in saying that ... but just can not come up with another explantion for so much hype and media attention / coverage. Including the president of the US feeling necessary to call his family. Did he call the families of the other entertainers that passed the same day? We know he did not call the families of the soldiers killed in Iraq that day. By Obama placing the call to MJ family said the loss of his life was more important than anyone elses to make a personal call. He could have sent a letter, like I am sure the soldiers families got.

Sad, but it really is all about the money.
It just disgusted me.

And thanks for raising the point about Obama and the families of soldiers. Good point.
