Do you have a special menu planned for Sunday? I usually try to cook whatever is requested for Mothers' Day. This year it's grilled pork chops with basalmic/maple syrup dipping sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans. Not very fancy, but it's what she asked for.

Do you remember what your mother's favorite thing to cook?

I don't. Shame on me. I was too busy worrying about what I wanted rather than appreciating her. She loved to cook big meals to fill her 5 children and my Dad. There was always cornbread and onions on the table for lunch and dinner. She made great fried chicken, vegetables, biscuits from scratch, and on and on. She cooked in cast iron because my Dad thought it tasted better that way. She was a city girl from Columbus, Ga, but never refused to cook anything we brought home from hunting or fishing. She worked hard and got little recognition, but sought none either. She loved her children and husband and showed us all what being a parent was all about. Fortunately she is still with us. I will ask this weekend what was her favorite. Thanks for prompting me to do that!

I think you just described it. I'll bet your mom really loves you. Enjoy her every day while she's here. Mine's gone and I miss her. BTW her favorite meal was Thanksgiving. she would spend a week just getting ready. The saddest day I had with her was when she was older and I had to go over to her house and "help" her cook it for her. It was the last one she did...

I'm only a dog/cat Mom, but I've requested ribs and potato salad.
Both Feb's and my mother's are gone. My mother didn't cook (her favorite thing to make was reservations), but Feb's Mom loved steamed shrimp. Some years her birthday fell Mother's Day and when we gathered, steamed Gulf shrimp would be the menu she requested. (she lived at the beach).
