I used to watch Food Network all the time to get new recipes, tips and techniques. Now all I see are challenges, Triple D and Chopped. Is it just me or have they gone down hill?

Mack - Same here never watch Food Channel anymore. But now search allrecipes.com for recipe ideas. Plus have an online recipe box, LOL.

I switched to the Food Channel. Better. I can only take a little of Bobby Flay.

I agree that it seems like it's a constant marathon of Chopped and Cupcake Wars, and that guy with the white hair. So many things I know about cooking came from the old days of NPT. I think Christopher Kimble has a pretty good show still on NPT. I highly recommend you check out Cooks Illustrated magazine. Not only excellent recipes, but explains the science and techniques behind it. No advertising either, so when they review something, they tell it like it is. I also like Fine Cooking.

My Bad, I said Food Net and I meant Cook Net. It is a little better if you can get it.
I, too, got turned off with the new FoodNet content. I really, really do not like Bobby Flay.
I like the format of shows with Tyler Florence, Paula, the Neeley's, and even Giada, sometimes. (Mostly her cleavage/teeth/hair/nails/size/ and finally, her ancestry). Sometimes.
Relying more and more on web sites for new ideas.

FN seems to be constantly changing and experimenting with programming and that keeps things fresh. I have noticed that some of the chefs are migrating to the Cooking Channel though and that might be some transition going on..$$$?

I still like some of the programming - sorry but I get really good Mex upgraded ideas from Flay - but I think the Iron Chef/Chopped & Whacked stuff is silly. I still like Ina Garten, Flay, Anne Burrell sometimes and if you want cleveage I' think Sandra Lee gets the blue ribbon. I watch Alton Brown sometimes because he's a Dawg and a Chemistry major.HAHA!

Giada is just Gen Y sillyness to me. She drives me nuts with the correct "Italian" pronunciations of things. PanCheeeetaaaaah!

Rachel Ray also drives me crazy with the constant yammering.

The class act though is still Ina Garten. That show is really well done and all her recipes work.

I like Ina Garten too. In some ways, she reminds me of the old Julia Child. I probably get more inspiration from her than anyone else. I like Bobby Flay's throw downs. I want to like Giada because I am obsessed with Italian coking, but I struggle. I wish Mario Batali would have a cooking show. He's the only reason to watch Iron Chef. I have no time for Rachael Ray or Sandra Lee. I like Paula Deen because she always seems to be having a great time in the kitchen. She loves to cook and she loves to eat, and she seems to really enjoy her guests. I have tried to warm up to the Neely's. I like him, but I don't think she brings a lot to the show.

Some of the Neeleys ideas are interesting but that sweetums -honey-shuggie-gurlgley goo-gah makes me crazy....

Hmmmmm...maybe I watch it too much,,,,,,

I watched it a couple of times but I can't take her. I wish they would let him do a BBQ show by himself.

there are 2 new shows ... Pionner Woman, who has a huge following from her blog.  she has doable recipes. (check out her website) and The Sandwich King ... he makes me laugh, and the shows I have watched have been entertaining and informative.

Saw Pioneer Woman on a Bobby Flay throw-down. Never heard of the other guy.

He won "TheNext Food Network Star" competition. I personally thought he was not in the top two. I can make sandwiches. It's not that hard and can't support an entire series.

Yes, that's the problem with all these competitions -- they have a winner and have to design a show around them. Do you ever watch "No Reservations" with Anthony Boudain on the Travel Channel. He doesn't cook, but he certainly eats some interesting stuff.

Me too. I want an old Emeril or Good Eats type show. Show me how, tell me why, and I will go from there. And make it regular food, not some fancy 5 star stuff. I don't have all the new gizmos, just pots and pans, knives and spoons, a mixer and several smokers.
