Does anybody here have a Can't Fail recipe for boiled peanuts? Not Cajun or anything fancy, just salty??
I just opened a frozen bag my Georgia neighbor at LM gave us last Summer. They were OK, but not cooked enough or salty enough.
My whole family, even the Picky Eaters, love boiled peanuts. They freeze well also. Plan to put away a big bunch during p'nut season and enjoy all year with a beverage and ball game.

I think the first requirement is you have to cook them on the side of the road, in a big pot.  Beyond that, I am not sure of the details.

For many, many years on the way to Grayton Beach for vacation, at the intersection of 331 and 98, there was a stand that sold tomatoes and boiled p'nuts out of a big bucket over a propane burner. Best ever p'nuts, plus good maters too.

Love Grayton. Probably have gotten peanuts there too.

First you have to use green peanuts. Don't waste your time on roasted. I use an 8-10 quart pot with water and add about 1 cup of salt. I boil the peanuts slowly for about 2-3 hrs then shut it off and let it get completely cool. I have found the peanuts won't take up the salt if you don't let them cool in the brine first. I used to taste and taste while they were cooking and wondered why they weren't getting salty. 

Anyone else have better ways I'm open to suggestions too. Good luck!

I would think so. Never done it. Drinking beer beside the crockpot doesn't have the same ambiance though :-)

I live in south Alabama and here is a recipe we use. I boil 5 # (preferably "Jumbo size" ) in a large pot on a propane burner. When the water is rolling hot add 1 bag (16 ounces) of Zatarani's crab boil. After a few minutes gradually start adding the peanuts. Keep the water boiling and rolling. Usually takes about one hour. Start sampling after 45 min. or so. After you are satisfied with the doneness cover the pot and let sit overnight. Drain on a towel and bag for the freezer.

I do not like mine real salty. You could add a little salt but I would recommend trying just the crab boil first.

As I said, I started with bags of frozen boiled peanuts, not salty enough or cooked enough.
Thawed them and dumped them in a big crockpot with maybe a gallon of water and a 1/2 cup of ice cream salt.
Slow simmered for maybe 2 hours. Cut off heat and soaked in crockpot until completely cooled.
Big difference!! Tender and salty.
RR is right. Cook until slightly tender and then soak until cool. Perfect.

Glad it worked for you. A GA boy should be able to steer you right about peanuts  :-)

Nothing better than cruising the North GA Mountains in the fall, stopping to get some boiled peanuts and throwing the shells out the window as you cruise through the mountain roads. No beer though. I would never drink & drive.
