Balanced, the Bowl is vented to outside air . Unblanced, the bowl is not vented, atmospheric pressure not the same.

Never thought of that. I will start paying more attention to carbs just to know what is out there.

267 = inches of vacuum at 3500 rpm under the primarys' on a 750cfn Holley Carb. If it is feeding at 355 cu.in. SBC with a square cam (.457/.457 @ .50 duration). At that point, it would not matter if the carb. was balanced or not. That is my take on this thread, PLEASE don't make me think this hard again. Steve.

Gotta remember Catman, I came from the days of the Olds Rocket 88 & Hudson Hornet. The only fuel injection I ever messed with was the Rodchester F.I..in the late 50`s and early 60`s, and that was not true fuel injection as it had a bed plate, knew just enough about the Hilborn injectors to to get me in trouble.

Catman, let me ask you this ?. When in you install a blower (a Whipple or whatever) on a engine how do you lower the compression to componsate for the extra boost or the blower. Change the pistons ,or build up the clearance between the the block and the heads?

Most marine engines only run compression ratio's of about 8.75 to 9.25 to 1. Usually, in most applications we only run 3-7 psi. of boost/pressure. (Unlike drag cars that have 15psi or more). The boost pressure is kept low, because of the extended amount of time a marine engine operates at a higher rpm range vs. a automotive engine in a truck or car that runs down a drag strip at w.o.t. for 5-10 seconds. Anyway, with say 5lbs. of boost the static comp. ration stays relatively low. A couple of other things to assure reliability is ingition timing is kept low, usually 30*-32* total advance. We also remove the thermostat and circulator pump from the block, and run around 110 deg. of water temp. The ring gaps are set a little wider as well as the piston/cyl.wall clearance a little wider. This is probably more information than you ask for. Sorry for the long post. Interesting question though.

Cat put Nitros on the Python. She is a little rocket now. Raised the bar by 10-12mph. Quickly I might add. Wanna race?

I looked at Viper at the Python place by Lake Lanier years ago. The steering wheel was on the wrong side, the guy told me it was because that particular boat was built to be a pump boat. Phython is now out of business,i can understand why. The 24 footer that I was intrested in was a piece of junk. That`s why I settled for a Scarab, was not muck better.

The steering wheel is on the correct side of mine. It is a knockoff of a Donzi Sweet 16 (16' long) It is a blast to drive. We really have a great time with it. I'll try to post link below.

Hey McKay....looks like you don't need that 305 replaced with a 350, you just need cat to add nitros to that bad boy...might want to upgrade the outdrive though...rite CAT,lol
