I have a 3 yr. old floating dock built with pressure treated lumber for the planking. Looking for advice on the best way to stain, paint or treat the wood for durability.

Contact BMS Marine, 256-747-2988. I know they do marine painting and re-planking work. Maybe they can provide you with some advice.

We also have a dock built of pressure treated lumber. We recently had to re-plank some of the old boards and stain them. We simply used a sprayer from a garden section of Home Depot and used Olympic Waterproof Stainer to stain the dock, and have found this very useful.

With any treatment, you are going to want to make sure you have prepped the wood as the cleaner it is the better your treatment is going to take. This will insure you are not back doing it again next year. Secondly, you will get more success if you apply the sealer with a somewhat stiff bristled brush ; you can spray it on but you should then brush it as well (I have heard this referred to as back brushing). One thing I think you should consider (and I'm not trying to sound like a zealot) is that we all have a responsibility to the lake and to others not to overuse product so that it is running off into the lake. Apply liberally, but with restraint.
