Has anyone had direct expierence with converting an early model 4.3 2bl to a 4 barrel configueration and if so obviously how difficult, what waas result in power/fuel usage?

I don't think it would be worth the time and effort.  Personally, never done one.  If you wanna be the ginney pig count me in.

I'm really not expecting any significant bump in top end but understand form some online forems that there is a noticeable improvement in hole shot and mid-range performance in general espicially if you also look at a prop change.

I have done some product reseach and talked to the Edelbrook engineering department and they sell a 600cfm marine carb and aluminum manifold for around $600-700.00 total.  What do you think the labour would run to do the switch?

Depending on how well the linkage hooks up, and adapts I'd say around 6 hours or so.  95.00 is hourly labor rate.

If I were to buy a boat in the 2000-2006 year range could you read the ECU and give me a reasonably good idea if the boat has any significant internal engine issues?

Gonna have to change the heads to match the ports on the 4 barrel intake manifold.

Reading the ECU will pretty much only tell us about operating conditions, propor or not.  There are plenty of other ways to check the engine.  And, as posted there is no "matching" of the heads required if you purchas the correct intake manifold.

We have built many 4.3s including a naturally aspirated one that runs in the 11s in the quarter mile on all motor.  A 500 cfm carb is what you want,  600 cfm is a little to big and will not atomize the fuel very well plus will have a poor throttle response!  Trust me,  I'm a doctor! !

And if she don't have vortec heads, you are wasting your time,  you gotta upgrade to those if you don't already have them!

Edelbrook carb is calibrated for marine application as well as built to USCG specks for fuel delivery.

Edelbrock 500 cfm marine carb is the perfect choice!
