RIP. Stayed in office to the bitter end and far longer than she was even able to do the job.....that or she proved that the job of being a Senator requires no effort. Either way I still can't comprehend their desire to stay in "power" so late in life. I suspect it is their staff propping them up so they can keep their jobs, figuring that whoever replaces the current officeholder will bring in their own people. It's not like they'll lose that Senate seat to the GOP.

Newsome has already said he will replace her with a Black woman. Don't we all get a little bit tired of the race thing? Blacks are still only 13% of the population, yet at the rate they are appointing blacks to governing positions, you would think that they are a large part of our society.
I can't really feel bad about Finestein. She should have been out of there 20 years ago. Her staff has been propping her up for the last couple of years. Wonder how many more of these people will drop dead on the job?

Apparently most of them, Hound. I read that if they die in office they get, or are at least qulified, for a State Funeral and that of lot of the obvius narccistic egomaniacs crave that. I read that a few years ago and have been curiuos but have never fact checked it. I'm sure goofy will though.

In the entire history of the country, there have only been 2 female black Senators and 11 male black Senators. Currently, there are 24 white female Senators and 3 black male Senators. Do you really have an issue with a token black female being appointed as a US Senator? They will have to run in November 2024 to keep the office.

The Democrat Party is obsessed with identity politics. Why not appoint the INDIVIDUAL who is most qualified, regardless of sex, race, religion, or any other such designation?

Imagine that. Change one word and the statement applies to both parties. Good one, old timer

This new obsession with appointing people by race, instead of qualifications, almost always ends up the same. Most of the people are not the best and brightest overall - which is what we really need.
Yesterday, I read that the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs who is black, said that a priority of the AF is getting more African Americans in leadership positions. Why?

Ben Carson was a perfect example as Trump's appointment as Secretary of Housing. A supporter, fantastic surgeon, but certainly not the best for the job. It happens in politics and both parties are quilty. Aside from the racecard....look the best person available appointments by Trump who were fired...Tillison, Flynn, Sessions, and Scaramucci.
Would you consider Tim Scott 's appointment by then Gov Nicki Haley to be any different than Newsome's appointment?

I just don't approve of picking people based on their skin color. If equality is what is sought, then the only thing that should be considered are qualifications. That's how the system becomes equal. People have to work harder to be the best qualified.
I had a black major that came to work in my office. Big chip on his shoulder. It was clear to me that he had been passed along in his career because of his race. He did not bond with the other military people in the office (which was a norm), did a half asses job and then when he got an honest performance report from me, he accused me of trying to end his career. Some one should have done him that favor years before he got to me. He was also a graduate of an historically black university. He couldn't do the job he was assigned.

Unqualified Promotion

Over the years, people have been promoted until they reach a position they are incapable of handling. It is known as the Peter Principle. Maybe, the Major was such a victim.
"The Peter principle states that a person who is competent at their job will earn a promotion to a position that requires different skills. If the promoted person lacks the skills required for the new role, they will be incompetent at the new level, and will not be promoted again. If the person is competent in the new role, they will be promoted again and will continue to be promoted until reaching a level at which they are incompetent. Being incompetent, the individual will not qualify for promotion again, and so will remain stuck at this final placement."
There are many examples of executives who have been promoted and are unnable to perform in their new position.Just look at banks and auto companies.

Amazing that there is apparently no training or anything for these "peters" to learn a new position.
They are just forced into the position, abandoned and then left in the position that they are not qualified for causing them to become a drain on the organization and continue to get paid for a job not done.

"continue to get paid for a job not done."
Or, get fired or demoted to a job they can handle. I am sure you have seen employees who are great programmers who are promoted to Manager of Programmers. However, they have no interpersonal skills and fail as a Manager. I experienced that and moved the person back to programmer and reduced their salary increase 50%. They were much happier not having to deal with people issues and still enjoyed a salary increase. They were great in their job until they retired and returned as a contract employee.

nah - most of the time they just get promoted again to another position they cannot do.
if you demote someone, you have to be careful to weigh the LGXYZ/DEI/pigment status and the cost of the lawsuits that will be filed vs the cost of a do nothing employee. Most of the time keeping them in a position is cheaper.
