We are thinking of dropping our charter cable service at our lake house (Manoy Creek) in favor of a digital TV antenna. However, when we researched the reception possibilities through AntennaWeb.com the website predicts that we would only be able to pickup Channel 25 out of Alex City.
Does anyone out there have a digital TV antenna and if so how many and which channels can you pickup? Are you close to Manoy?

I have experimented with antennas in Sandy Creek Estates. First, all antennas are digital-capable if there is sufficient signal present. It does not have to be one that is sold as a "digital" antenna. I used a 30 yr. old vhf/uhf antenna in the attic pointed toward Montgomery (antennaweb can give you precise pointing angles) and with an amplifier...only received the three wsfa digitals, the 2 Fox20 channels, and 4 APTV digitals. I also mounted a 50 year old parabolic antenna outside but only 14' from ground level..again with amp..and was able to receive the nbc, fox, abc, and CW...occasionally, cbs would pop in and in unusual weather circumstances, the 4 digitals from the campus at Tuscaloosa...also pbs....in Manoy, not sure how Smith Mountain would impact you but if you are located behind the mountain, could be a big problem. Good luck!

Thanks Bigfoot. Excellent information. Unfortunately, we are behind Smith Mountain (northside).

I'm on Manoy Creek, have done some field strength measurements and I can confirm "Bigfoot"'s results duplicate what I found. I'd say that regardless of any realistic antenna height, we are just too far away from a critical mass of stations unless you just want to watch one or two.
The local cable company wanted several thousand dollars to put a cable drop to our house, so we instead selected DishNetwork, which has been very reliable for us. We are full-time residents here, so we rely on a television feed for more than just casual weekends.

Thanks RadioActive. We will check into the DishNetwork.
