A couple of miles below Neely Henry Dam there are 2 fishing piers you can see from hwy 77 on your left.  The weekend of December 1st,  I was there with my cast net and brought home 5~8" gizzards.

I tried to catch them at the dam this time but did not have any success (most times it is a good place when they are generating 2).  A local guy was not having any luck either.  He left the dam and returned 30 minutes later to tell me he had found some.  That is when he showed me this place.

I threw my net from the pier and caught 50~60 gizzards,  1 large mouth (5 lber lol), and several bream.  Of course the illegal fish was returned without harm.  The 1 time I threw my NEW net from the boat ramp there,  I got hung and ripped a hole in the net.

I'm thinking about going back up there this Friday evening if the generation schedule looks good.

Happy netting!!!

are you keeping the shad alive at home for extended periods of time? I have a 300 gallon tank and have treated with salt, dechlorinator, and a biofilter and i still can only keep em alive for a few days. I always lose 1/2 in the first 3 days

I have experienced some similiar problems but have overcome many of them. Give me a call and we can discuss particular issues. Click on the link and my cell number will be listed on the web page or it is listed on the main page of Lakemartin.com.
