Anybody been fishing around Kowliga lately and having any luck? Was thinking about trying that area out before weeks end .

Wondering how the water temp is too and what areas have cleared up. Going this weekend.

I think I'm gonna be sick Friday and go see Dr. Martin. Thinking about the Kowliga area for some downrigger trolling.

Waldo, we didn't go to Kowliga. We wound up staying in paces point area trolling and found 6 spots, a 6lb stripe and a crappie around a pound or better. All these fish were found in 6 to ten feet of water off of rocky shallow points. Didn't get a chance to post before Sunday. What did you wind up doing?

For what it is worth, about three weeks ago, I was doing some work at our place up past Real Island, and I saw a center console boat troll by and then stop at the mouth of the next slough over.  They stayed on that spot for well over an hour, which would indicate to me that something was biting there.  It is unusual to see boats like that fishing that far up Little Kowaliga since conventional wisdom says stripers do not like that part of the lake because of the lack of deep water.  On the other hand, I doubt that they were targeting spots in open water.  It would not surprise me to find a few stripers in relatively shallow water for them this time of year since water temps are not an issue like in the summer.

Procraft, I ended up going to Jordan instead. Was targeting spots but only had 2 hours to fish. Struck out but marked lots of "something" in 34-40.

What were you trolling with?'

White cranks that run 6 to 8 feet deep.

Ever had any luck trolling umbrella rigs on Martin?

from what I can tell, water depth is not such a big question to answer as the question of "where are the shad?" some times of the year the shad might be at that depth, therefore the stripers will be there.

I have tried it a few times with little success . Haven't used it enough to really say tho. They are easy to hang up for sure.

Agree, found a school in early feb near chucks, great action for an hour, moved on. checked area multible times since and nothing. worried that all the rain this year will have a negative effect on stripers again resulting in another larger fish kill later this summer when all the cold water gets sucked out.

tight lines

If the stripers ever found out how many shad are up Little Kowaliga, they would really get fat.  There have been times late in the evenings during the fall when I have seen gazillions of shad in the middle of the lake, and nothing is bothering them.  I have tried fishing these schools, and often I don't even catch any spots, much less fish with lines on them.

I hope Dr. Martin makes you ALL better!
