Marine VHF Radio on the Lake - 2018 update ?

About six years ago, I asked how much VHF marine radio was used on the Lake. The response was 'some', and it was monitored by TowBoatUS, but not the Marine Police.
Just wondering how that has changed here in 2018 and going into the fishing / boating season? It's a nice tool, and much better than the mobile phone coverage on the Lake. The party line nature is good for situational awareness.
I do remember that the Power Squadron was attempting to encourage usage and monitoring channel 16 on the Lake, but I don't know if that worked or not.
Anyone know how this was working last summer? We unfortunately didn't have much time to get out on the Lake due to family priorities.
Thanks!

I take my boat to the gulf and Atlantic coast to fish inshore, carry my radio and use it on Martin, never anything but static. But yes, a good tool, and nice to know that the Tow boats monitor. Saves me having to use my flares!
