Subject:	Coast Gaurd LM Over Flights?

Just curios if anyone knows anything about the Coast Guard Saber Jet that seems to fly over the lake on Sunday's at around 3:00 or 4:00pm? I've seen this several times in the past months but only on Sundays.

It goes over at probably close to 400 knots at maybe 1500 feet, seems to circle the lake, 2 or 3 times along the same flight path and then disappears. Is this a regularly scheduled overflight?

I'm a bit of an aircraft buff and was just wondering if I'm going to be seeing this all summer (I hope so . . . it's a beautiful sight)

P.S. - I can keep up with it on my jet ski.

My guess is it's a training flight , and a particular instructor has a route he likes that includes a pass over your part of LM. When I was an instructor in the Air Force, I had some favorite routes that included the lake.

Sounds like a possible answer. Do they yell "YEEEHAAAA" as they go over the lake when going that fast? (I know I would). I never flew jets but do have a lot of multi time under my belt. (civilain)

Seems a little odd to me to fly that low over a lake that has a ton of Hawks and other birds that like to use the thermals to obtain better views?

What did you used to fly in the AF?

When I did low levels over the lake, I was instructing in the T-37 out of Columbus MS (mid 80's).
