This will be my first Summer on the lake. Someone told me about a Poker Run on Lake Martin. What marinas are involved? Have they set a date? Is there a website?

Ok....I realize I'm going to get hammered on this one....but can someone give me a two sentence description/definition of a Poker Run? I know it involves the big fast boats going to Marinas....I assume it is a race. Why called Poker Run? Am I a dumbass?

Someone else may have a better description than little ol me but:

A Poker run is a thrilling game of chance on the water. Each participant collects a playing card at each of five stops (typically marinas). The best poker hand wins the grand prize. As they go from stop to stop, most boats will travel over 70 mph, with some peaking at over 100 mph. As a participant or a spectator, one can literally feel the power of these marine muscle machines as they take to the water.

If you read the last post it sounds like Cat Boat was practicing last weekend and broke the sound barrier.

I know ya'll are kidding , its really nothing like a race to get cards . You have plenty of time to get to your stops and know matter how long it takes you everybody has fun . Theres plenty of time for pontoons to make it . I don't think I will be in it this year but if you haven't tried it , its fun . If you don't want to spend your $450 then come hang out with me at the rock . Sip on a cold one and have a good time watching everyone else try to will the $5000 dollar purse for winning!!

the poker runs are fun its really not a race and anyone can do it its just that participants like to egg each other on in a little friendly competition , its always the highest hand that wins anyway, I guess we will all be doing it in canoes if that stupid bill gets passed , Boy what a long day that will be!

not that i know of russel marinas sponsored the last one , with this boat ban mess there may not be one , but there is 4 in ft walton destin through the summer . let me know if you want info , last year a hummer was the prize
