Hello Everyone,

I have been considering the purchase of a sailboat. It's 34 ft, fiberglass, shallow draft (4 ft), fixed keel sloop, currently located at Lake Lanier. I'd like to have it brought to Lake Martin.

I have found a company in Georgia that can deliver the boat to Lake Martin - so far - so good, but :

Harbor Pointe Marina (Stillwaters) can put it into the water, but they cannot raise the mast, nor do they have any wet slips available. (I am on the waiting list.)

I've looked at Chuck's Marina, and saw that they do have wet slips for sailboats, but by all appearances, they are full to capacity. (I did not talk to anyone there.)

Ridge Marina has plenty of space that would work, but they refuse to even talk to anyone about adding a second sailboat.

Anchor Bay Marina has covered slips only. We have discussed tying the boat up at the end of one of their docks, but the home office has nixed the idea.

I've investigated buying an interior lot which would give me dock access but have learned that the Alabama Power Company limits private piers to 50 feet and the lake water levels go down so much in winter that my boat would likely be sitting on the keel once the water goes down.

So... it's not looking good. No place to dock the boat, no sale. No sail either. : o (

If anyone knows of a place that would work to dock this boat, I'd love to hear it. Also, if anyone knows where I would be able to have the mast (46 ft) recommissioned, I'd very much like to have that information also.

Thank you,

P. Boone

Have you tried the state park at wind creek. they have slips that would have enough water year round

or you could join the dixie sailing club and moor in their cove.

saterfield in alexander city has cranes that can set your mast.

Lots of people might rent out a space on their pier. But they can't tell if He will lower the lake by 2.5 feet some summer.

I have two questions:
Why doesn't The Ridge rent to sailboats?
Are the New Orleans FEMA people still at Wind Creek?

Buy from the Ridge and they will find you a slip.

HotRod,

Thank you for your suggestions. I did go up and take a look at the marina and Wind Creek, and you're right, it does look like it would be deep enough.

I tried to make contact with Dixie Sailing club via their forum, but I haven't had a chance to check back in there.

Either way, it has turned out that the repairs needed on this boat are going to take too long. By the time they are finished, the lake levels will be too low to put the boat in the water, plus the cost of those repairs is going to be quite high, so I've given up on that boat completely.

Thank you all for your replies and comments.

P. Boone
