is anyone using lake water in conjunction with a geothermal heatpump
for heat and air. it appears that these heatpumps will save 30 to 50% on heating and cooling and also provide free hot water

If you're talking about a closed loop system in the lake water, I think I heard that APCo would not allow the piping in the lake. I would love to put in a system--got a friend with a well type system that works great.

400 feet of pipe will do it. It can be enclosed and into ground water. A heat pump at 49 degrees is five times as effective as at 17 degrees.
