That 3.5 cents may be a little misleading. That is the CITY rate, but the total rate in Dadeville is 8.5 %. Good for you, Mayor, for saying no to the increase!!

I have a radical idea on how to pay for the upgrade to the waste water treatment plant. Increase the fees or property taxes for those whose waste water is going into the treatment plant.

that people pay for a needed service they use? What a concept! ...............I'm waiting for the Mayor of Dadeville to demand that Lakewatch and the HOBO's pay for the new plant; this guy needs to go and I'm wiling to put up money for a campaign against him and other city council members in the next election. Many of us may not be able to vote there, but we can certainly help sponsor candidates with the big picture.

the elections are next year. Wonder how much the Dadeville residents pay for sewage as a percentage of their water bill? Last place I lived the rate was 240% of your water bill.
Dadeville will have to ante up somewhere--we're not going away.

Dadeville and Alex City should partner up to lay pipe. Send Dadeville's wastewater by pipe to Alex City's Sugar Creek treatment plant. It is a state of the art plant that has all kinds of excess capacity. In fact an increased stream of wastewater will help that plant to run even better.
If it's a partnership venture the cost to Dadevillians would probably be lower than the cost of the upgrade to Dadeville's treatment plant. And it solves the problem of pollution entering Lake Martin at Sandy Creek forever. Everybody wins. Isn't that the way it should be?

You can't come here and talk sense like that!! If you come here to talk of the WWTP you have to bash the Mayor and all other elected officials. You must talk about how lame they are, how ignorant, how back woods and redneck. Then make veiled threats, whine and complain, demand meetings, demand the city pay for those meetings. Don't forget to praise yourself and remind everyone that you know the BEST way to solve the problems, while at the same time doing nothing but contributing to the problem.
|
That does sound like a good idea if it can be done. All I care is that Mayor Joe takes proper responsibility for his city and their problems, and so far I have seen nothing that shows he is willing to do so.

I like the out of the box thinking but unfortunately I would guess that the cost to build 15 miles of sewer pipe, including lift stations would be prohibitive even if you could get Alex City to agree to accept the wastewater (which I seriously doubt as it would limit their future growth). As an example, I saw a cost estimate for 9.3 miles of new sewer with the replacement of existing pump stations at a cool $24.0MM. That would pay for a lot of upgrades of the existing system.

Dadeville had an estimate from engineers of about $5.0 M. 2 lift stations and 12" pipe, I think. BTW, Alex City had capacity for Russell Mills which is gone--brand new treatment plant that needs more sewage to operate properly. Utilization is very low right not--they have shown interest in taking Dadeville's sewage. Problem is Dadeville.
