Nothing against the egg....but just wondering what benefit is versus traditional smoker with indirect heat (i.e. firebox on side). I have never tried the egg.......just assumed smoker was better. Do not see any eggs at BBQ tourneys.

I do butts with indirect heat and hickory wood with a little lump charcoal. Takes 10-12 hours but man is it good!

I think any way you cook outside is good so I'm not against any style cooker, smoker, etc. I used gas Weber grills for years and thought they were the best, still think they are the best GAS grill I've used. In 2005 a friend of mine gave me a Green Egg for a gift and I was hooked the first time I used it. I now have one at home and one at the lake and as far as I am concerned it just don't get any better than an Egg. Mine are the large size and are plenty big enough for my needs.

A recommendation that I make to people is to go to Eggtoberfest in Atlanta. This is the largest one in the country. They have over 200 eggs and people come from all over the country to cook on them. You can walk around all day and try different creations that people cook. You only pay to enter, and all of the food (and beer) is free all day. You will be amazed at what people cook on the eggs.

I have had 3 people go to this event and all 3 of them bought eggs. This is the only time you will see the eggs on sale. You can purchase the eggs that people cook on that day and take one home. They give you the entire setup (Egg, Charcoal, Nest, Tools, etc) for around $600. The only thing with Eggtoberfest is that you have to keep your eyes open for sign up. They only allow 1500 people into the event and it normally sells out in 1 week. To view more info go to:
