Yeah that's a little dark but I get your point. In reality, unless you are over age 65 or have some preexisting condition your changes of survival are around 99%. Apparently close to 100% of the people that died in the nursing home in Seattle were average age of 80 and had preexisting conditions. Same was true for the 700 people exposed on the cruise ship.

For as yet unknown in the US the virus seems to be infecting many more younger people.

I heard today that they are looking at a drug that worked with Ebola. Apparently a few people have been tested with it with good results. I see that they are hoping to find a drug that is already developed and used for something else. That would be the best case. And that it is effective long term.

You are correct again. But, simply running a test on a few patients does not make something a cure. Even an exisiting drug must have extensive clinical trials to prove its safety and effectiveness before any drug manufacturer will be willing to make if even if the FDA has approved it. The liability is too great.
I am glad that most on this forum, MM and CRD excepted, are finally coming around to believing this thing is a real and serious threat!

It will be very good news indeed if these therapies will work. I'm particularly intrigued by the study in France with the use of quinine. It is easily and cheaply made and is already readily available. The vaccine for SARS took 21 months to develop which at the time was a record. So I'm not holding out much hope that we can find a vaccine before the next flu season. Hopefully the Wuhan virus will be like SARS, MERS and the usual strain of flu virus and will simply not reappear in the fall. But if it does I am optimistic that by then we will have some effecacious treatment regimens readily available so we won't have a repeat of this year's madness.
