Watching Johnny Football on the sideline duirng the game, calm, minimal emotions, and then explode on the field, I thought of Pistol Pete Marivich. Both did not look the part to have the magic with which they play.

I know I post too much on this forum (as in ad nauseum) but I just can't help myself when the subject of Pistol Pete comes up. As a student living in Mag Dorm at Auburn during the 60's, I was talked into going with some of my hall buddies over to the old "barn" to watch a freshman team matchup between AU and LSU. None of us had really ever heard of Maravich and we got there early to watch the warm-ups. We all laughed loudly and pointed at Pete as he warmed up...the dirty, floppy socks down around his ankles...the skinny, sickly-looking body. We were wondering if he was just the ball boy warming up with the others. Well, the game started and Maravich politely poured in close to 70 points and shut us all up in a hurry. That day remains my most unforgettable memory from that era....not even on the varsity team yet but we knew we had seen something special.

one of my favorites growing up, tried some of his dribbling skills including dribbling while riding a bike down the street.
