Only a REALLY brave or foolish man would title his post with that phrase. It did however get your attention. So here are two questions for you folks:
1. I seem to remember a post some time back regarding the water pressure on the Parker Creek Water system in the Highway 20 area. Have any of you experienced this and what did you do to resolve it? I believe it may be the pressure regulator and am planning to replace mine absent any other suggestions from the group.
2. Just how long are we going to be expected to pay the "minimum" water charge of 30-40 dollars to Parker Creek? It would seem to me that with the hefty hook up charge and this fee being paid for a number of years the initial capital expense must be almost recapped by now.

I don't think there was an end date ever mentioned. Mr Helney has a pretty much captive audence, and I believe that PC Water Company is a privately held company. So, you have three choices. 1. Dig a well. If you choose that option your flow may or may not be acceptable, and you'd have to have a generator during the sometimes extended power outages we seem to have. 2. Pump lake water and haul your drinking water. 'Nuff said there. 3. Pay the piper and have a constant, safe source.
Now, it would seem to me that there should be a sliding scale whereby the monthly floor on bills is lowered based on years of service. Mr Henley will have to adress that.

Water pressure is most often determined by the purveyor. If it (fluctuation) occurs to eveyone on the system and at the same times, it is because their delivery system (pumps/tanks) is not properly sized for the demand or not adjusted/controled for peak usage times.
If you are the only customer who experiences these fluctuations, then it is probably your pressure regulator or debris in your lines that are creating blockage.
I would do a 24 hour pressure test and determine if the source or regulator is the problem.

Maybe the water system needs a new Impeller. Or, what Lakeplumber says. Just sayin'

Maybe the outlet is being held too tightly, sometimes you just have to jiggle it a little to clear the blockage.... Or, like CAT said "what Lakeplumber says. Just sayin'"

is why do we have all these tiny undercapitalized weakly managed water systems? Why can't they be combined? Could we have a county water system like other places have?

Maybe because the lake is bordered by three different counties. Parker Creek Water Co serves at least two (Elmore and Coosa).

I am on the same system. Off of Coosa 20. I have never noticed a problem in the last three years with any fluctuation in water pressure. I was down about a week ago briefly and didn't notice anything at that time as well.
BTW...I recently was complaining about the tap fee to PCW to some family members. Their tap fee was the same or little more and monthly bill higher....and the water is not that good. I actually really like the Parker Creek water.
So ... I am very glad to have it.

With the abundant water supply at LM, I would simply put in a water filtration system and produce my own water.
That being said, there is probably some restrictive law that would make any such easy solution from ever being a reality.

Aren't there some chemical processes the water companies use in addition to filtering and clorination? There may be dissolved toxins that would remain after filtering.
BTW, I am getting really close to calling you!

The only other process is Flouridation (a very contrversial chemical) use for strengthening teeth. A reverse osmosis filter coupled with one using UV lamps & activated charcoal will be of greater purity than ANY utility produced water. It is essentially 99.999% pure water. Without the poison of chlorine and flouride (yes I said poison, research it). Visit any water purification plant and ask for a tour. If they agree to a tour, pay attention to the warnings and safety protocols posted inside the plant where these chemicals are introduced.
I guess that I've seen the inside of too many water mains, I might be getting paranoid.
