Can someone tell me how for out from your boatdock you can place buoys? Do you have to get a permit? Suggestions for ancoring the buoys.... Thanks! Need to get the heavy boat traffic on Rock Creek further away from our boatdock.

I asked Sharp Johnson about this - he issues (issued - I think he's retired now) permits for docks and other waterfront stuff for APCO....

He told me that the people who float bouys in front of their docks are violating APCO rules. There are no rules allowing you to float bouys to keep people away from your dock and if someone where to hit one, get caught up in it and drown or be hurt then you'd be liable for their injury or death.

That said, I don't believe APCO does much about it.

Bottom line is people are basically rude. They don't come that close to get you pissed, they just don't think. That's one of the things wrong with people today... and I believe it comes down to how they were raised as children... they just don't 'think'... and really don't care.

Are you above sway back? IF so it gets a little narrow and the bouy is a danger, when the lake goes down the bouy drifts around due to extra slack on anchor line. I might recoment just parking your boat or a piece of junk anchored out a bit or even just jeer and heckle the clue less boaters. There is this one boat a x-14 that wake boards our area and he doesnot care if my kids are in the water or not he just turns near our dock(with in 15 feet). Pretty frightening, thinking about getting pictures and reporting such brainless folks to the liquid police

No, we are toward the mouth of Rock Creek across from Wilson's Bend. On the weekends my Granddaughter cannot swim because the boats come so close the waves wash up and over our boat dock. Frustrating! What will the lake be like 5-10 years from now when the boat traffic doubles or triples?

Geesh, it is so wide down there. Certainly understand the frustration. Can you creat a swim area with a series of floating bouy's? Maybe get a little extra insurence and put a bunch of bouy's out there. Plenty wide for everybodies needs. Maybe a bean bag gun? bottle rockets? Rocks? invite the marine police for a little picnik and let them see what is up. Dougnuts will attract the authorities(i know no fair, but in most generalizations there is a grain of truth)
