Not sure which, but was in Windmere?, Windmere II?, or perhaps the Ridge? development on Monday, and saw one of the very nice, new homes had burned to the foundation. Wondered if anyone might know the cause of the fire?

That was in the Ridge. There was an article in the Alexander City Outlook about it. It happened about a month ago. It was the retirement home of a very nice couple from out of state. I remember reading in the article that everything in the house was destroyed. I really feel badly for them. Not the way to start out your retirement on Lake Martin (or anywhere else, for that matter). I'm sure someone smarter than me can fill in more details and possibly a link to the article.

I understand feeling bad for lifelong loss of possessions, but I do not understand why this building would not have been insured? There were questions as to if it would be rebuilt. I still do not understand how it could have been devistating seeing how no one was injured, and they still have a wonderful lake to spend time on when the house is rebuilt...? (glass half full debate)... I could not imagine that they were not well insured...???
Compare their loss to the losses of Katrina victims, many of which lost everything with no insurance assistance!
By the way, I hate it that the home was destroyed, and that they lost what they held dear to them. Hope they rebuild, as I never was able tp see the home.

I can't imagine them not rebuilding. It's not like they don't have money. I think they were from the midwest and when their house burned, they were at their condo on the G

It was just a little ole 10,600 sq. ft. house. We rode over and found it after I saw the article from the Outlook posted on here.

for posting the link. Based on information in an above post, I searched the Outlook web page but could not find the article.
Glad everyone was safe and the house next door did not appear to have any damage. Good job done by those firefighters who did their best.
