This is a perfect, textbook case for the argument for limited federal government. Any time the government steps in and distorts the markets the outcome is not good. This is an argument for tossing out all big government politicians which means 95% of Democrats and all the RINO's and fiscally irresponsible Republicans who have abandoned conservative principals.

Unfortunately the tide is headed in the opposite direction and the intrusion of the federal government to fix a problem that they created in the first place is only going to increase. Five to ten years from now we are going to really learn the negative impact of the Democrat controlled Congress' response to the current economic slowdown....but until then the sheep are led to the slaughter....

you are right. You'd think we would learn from the current mess. Not sure when homeownership became a right. Article I was reading last night said that every President including Ronald Reagan said that homeownership epitomizes the American Dream and everything should be done to help people buy homes. Even those that can't afford it.

I am all for home ownership but only what someone can reasonably afford. We had modest, respectable increases in home ownership in this country when the lending decisions were made by the entity that would carry the loan (i.e., if it went bad they got the house back). Yes that limited the potential for home ownership with low and lower-middle class income earners but there is no lack of affordable rental housing in this country (except in areas where the government has made new construction impossible like California and some places in the northeast).

While I agree that every President has promoted programs that lowered the bar for home ownership to the point of being dysfunctional, I am particularly incensed that when some tried to fix the problem they were blocked and vilified as being racists. We know who blocked much-needed reform and they are still in Congress instead of prison where they belong.

This is a classic case of feel-good policies that actually do more harm to the intended recipient. I refuse to give them a pass because they meant well. Bad policies, regardless of the intent, should be eliminated and those responsible should lose their jobs. Unfortunately they are returned to congress year in and year out by an irresponsible electorate.

What really needs to happen is for me to be elected ruler of the world.......only then will things be better.....at least for me and those I like. Wait a second, I am beginning to sound like Obama....I have ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome)!

Got to say Martini, you couldn't do much worse than the current slate of clowns. I'll give you a vote for king.

Got my vote too. I am happy in my current position as CEO of the VRWC. Once you are installed in your new position I am sure we can work together to reign over the sheeple and force them into submission to our way of seeing things. But tell me, if you are going to make Vodka free to the masses, then I will guarentee the votes of all members of the VRWC.

Didn't know there was free Vodka at stake. I can probably round up (cast) a couple of extra votes.

Well announce your candiacy -- just imagine how much money you can raise in 4 years. We'll just have you take over an entire station for 2 years, so you can get your message out. We'll whip the media into a frenzy.

I am weighing forming an exploratory committee but have been unable to decide on what to serve at our first meeting: Kettle One versus Stoli, dirty versus straight up and the merits of 2 olives versus 3. Of course shaken and not stirred goes without saying.....and its not just that I look like James Bond.....well, sort of.....there is a vague resemblance....Once I have developed a position on this very important topic I will move on to lesser concerns such as the economy, world peace and secular humanism.

As a show of good faith I am asking all my early supporters to send me a bottle of their favorite vodka as a token of their appreciation for my willingness to serve at this most difficult time in our country's history. I am even willing to accept vodka from my political nemesis' GoneFishing, Tallulahhound and Lady. UncleSam insulted me so he is right out. I cannot promise you important positions in my administration but considering the likely outcome of my tenure that may actually be a blessing.

And remember, its not what happens to the country, its how things turn out for me and those people I like! Good night and God Bless America!

P.S. Don't send me any of that French vodka........it might make me want to surrender.
