I will be heading down May 14th and wanted to know if anyone could help by letting me know what, where and how to catch walleyes. I will be staying in the Theodosia area.

Good Luck,  We've lived here 6 years.  People are very close mouthed re information about fishing or they give you mis-information.  Also the lake is at flood stage which makes it a whole new lake out there.  We do know a quide in the area who is really very good at walleye, its his passion.  Even after six years we still don't know enough to give advice.  If you are interested in the information on the guide let me know.

Yeah, I know the situation, grew up down there, moved away, now moving back.

Been pretty lucky the last few yrs with the bass, crappie and small walleye. Everyone ALWAYS says off the points in 30-35 ft of water.....

I have been monitoring the flood pool at the dam. I have pix from a few yrs back when you could touch the bottom of the Theodosia bridge from your boat.

Sorry for the delay - been off line -  Hope this info isn't too late to help.   The lake is back up to where it was in 08.  Can't get under the bridge.  Lots more debris - floating trees etc.   Here's the email alfred@denninger.com and his web site is http://www.bullshoalsfishingguide.com/  Good luck to you.  Once we get caught up with all the storm damage we're going to go out and give it a try.  I'll let you know how we do.    Oh, Hello to you too :)

No don't have a recent photo yet but the level is higher than in your photo.  Can't get to our dock right now to get the boat out.  Going to try putting in a small boat in the am to see if we can get to the dock.

I just saw the pix from the Ozark County Times..... Wow!!! I don't know what to say. It looks like it may be a rough fish next week. I am debating right now if I should even launch my boat. Maybe just hang out at Cookie's alot, idk.

I did pretty well (bass) in 08 when it was flooded.

No walleyes, no bass...... I had no luck. I sat above a large gathering of crappies suspended in about 40 ft of water, and what looked like walleye sitting below them. I could see the shad come and go with my humminbird... we jigged, dropped worms, minnows, nothing.

We then headed up to the spring creek arm and casted crankbaits, softbaits and lizards.... I had 5 hits, 2 of which were gar....didn't land anything tho. :(  We are able to get to our dock, others were unable to.

I did enjoy cookies, got to say Hi to Don and Connie Smiley. Will try again later this week.

Same for us.  I "hear" that people are still catching but haven't seen the evidence.  No luck with catfish on jugs either.

I saw them catching catfish (and a bass or 2) up by Cookies. I was told they were having success with whitebass up at the spring creek arm in back flooded coves... I saw a few being cleaned at the HH boat launch dock. I was too cautious to take the boat out this past weekend, to many idiots out on their boats/jet skis. I was glad to see that the patrol was ticketing them and in some cases towing the boats to shore (impounding them?? I only hope.) I will probably try in a few weeks when the water lowers a bit.

We didn't go out over the weekend either.  Tried trolling last week and too many logs an inch out of the water.  Will try this week.  Keep hearing about people catching but not seeing anything around our dock or in our cove.   Jugs are working for catfish tho!

End of June, beginning of July blah... 5 crappie, 1 large blurgill and 1 18" bass.

Last week..... 1 large bluegill.

We heard they were staring to bite, but from 4am till about 10 or 11 then nothing.

I am too lazy to get out at 4am.

We are also too lazy to get out that early.  But last week when the water cooled down the jug lines did good.  10 cats.  We've been up lake down lake etc and nothing.  We've resorted to a good book and blue gill fishing.  down about 25 feet they are good size and if you get about 40 or so you've got some nice meat.  Ran inot a gouy a couple weeks ago - he had 150 of them. - so he said, I didn't count but it was a big bucket full.

I finally did it.... Everyone seems to troll or head down in Arkansas to the saddle across from Oakland, but I was able to pull 4 nice walleye off the spring in the spring creek arm. I was so happy.

Oh my gosh!  Soo happy for you!  We haven't even bothered fishing this year we are so disgusted with this lake...were you trolling?

Disgusted? Why?

No, we were using large crank baits. I will be back down in a few weeks, I was told to try jigging hammered silver spoons in 30ft of water off the points. I also hear that trolling worm rigs at 30 ft is what is currently working.

Ok, this trip was a bit slower. just a few bass, nothing larger than 2 1/4 lbs.. Was trying to figure out what kept snapping my line when fishing for crappies the last few trips... Put a heavier line on, and it turned out to be channel cats! We caught 3 total, 2 were over 24" and the last one was about 14". The were hitting the large shiners. (?!?) No walleye fishing this time, but will be back down in a week to try again.

Cleaning out my email and found your post about catching cats.  Now that it's many months later LOL.  I must admit we didn't fish the lake in 2012.  Swam a lot, played on the dock, but no fishing.  Well maybe we ran some jug lines but that's about it.    We did haul our kayaks down to the White River many many times where we floated and caught trout.  Guess we've pretty much given up on learning how to fish this darn lake.  Plus we got back into horses and that has taken up much of our time learning the nearby trails.  Good luck for 2013...will be interested to hear how you do!

I hope to do some fishing soon. Was down 1st week of Jan on business and caught a doosie of a crappie. Not many though, Once we caught 1 or 2, the bite stopped, like they are spooked. We noticed that the bass are sitting in 12-30 ft of water, drop a minnow to the bottom and reel up 1 or 2 reels. Nothing huge, but 1/2-1.5 lb bass all day long. We fished right off our dock. I will post some pictures if I can later tonite or tomorrow.

Oh that is good information.  Thank you.  I AM starting to get a bit of the fishing bug.  Your dock must be in a much better place than ours.  We only have about six feet of water right now.  Really worried about what is going to happen if we don't get rain.

I know the DNR lowered the lakes on purpose. They are trying to initiate this running water thing in Arkansas to stimulate the trout fishing industry down there. They want to keep the flow of water thru the damn at a constant rate. To do this, they will actually keep the water in Bull Shoals at a higher than the normal level. They have informed all of the marinas on the lake and many are creating, moving/fixing their boat launches/beaches/camp sites to accomodate the higher expected water levels. Out dock is in a deep part of a cove, so we are lucky.

I have not done the trout thing or been on the white river since I was 10 or so. I will be picking up 2 kayaks this year, I am torn between a sport and a fishing model. Any advice? Let me find my pix....
