We have a fond memory of having access to a a floating dock when we rented a lake house 8 years ago. Fast forward to today, we now have our own lake house and do not have plans ready for a pier and dock just yet- will have to be next year, We want to use a small floating dock this summer for some fun.  I have a few questions about keeping it from floating away. I can put a post in the ground on the land side of my seawall to tether it to or a post in the lake bed to tether it to ??  I would like to hear from your experiences of what you have done and what works best? We don't want the dock to be in one place permanently. We will have a flaoting dock that is larger attached to the pier next year.

The method they use at Dixie Sailing Club to moor sailboats is to attach a chain to a couple of old 18 wheeler brake drums, sink the drums where they want to moor the boat, and permanently mount a float at the top of the chain so they can just pull up and hook up.

Would think you could do the same thing with a small floating dock.  When you wanted to permanently remove it, just drag the drums by the chain over to the water's edge (might require some muscle), remove the chain from the drums, and dispose of them.

Check some of the diesel repair shops for drum availability.

because of bouyancy, I would tether it to land if I could. Another option I would consider is to use two 5 gallon buckets filled with sakrete with large I-hook in center to anchor too.

I have a 8 x 20 pontoon boat (platform only) with fiberglass pontoons for sale if you are looking for something now.
