Just wanted to say hi, new member here, just found the site, love and appreciate the fishing reports.... I have a bunch of questions for you guys if you don't mind,,, I'm from Michigan and I am planning on coming down for the winter, Nov through March,, what's a good campsite? Local bait shop? Average weather around the area? Never fished for stripes, use shiners?, crank baits?, jigs? How's the largemouth fishing? Are there drop offs? Lots of structure? Are the fish slow to respond in the colder weather? Gas prices in the area? Boat launch sites? Any other information you can provide would be great.. I'm sure that I'll think of more questions, but for now I am grateful for any help you could give me, thank you so much.....

Lake Martin is a beautiful lake...you will enjoy every minute!
it is a relatively clear lake...spots and stripes thrive...largemouths are not as abundant but you can find them.
The Tallapoosa is one of the cleanest and prettiest rivers in the south...dont overlook going up river to the first set of shoals in the late Spring and using a fly rod for hybrids, stripes, spots and redeyes.

Good campsites are in Wind Creek State Park. Over 600 campsites. Many sites you can leave your boat in the water behind the campsite. Just keep in mind the water will be at winter pool, down as much as 10 feet.
Nice boat ramps and bait shop, fuel and limited food. Another boat ramp on highway 63 just below the park for fishing further south on Kowaliga side of lake. Can get quite cold and windy on the lake.
I don't use anything but plastics/cranks/poppers and jigs, no live bait mess! (But probably less fish)
Enjoy.
