Today was beautiful on lake martin. Caught over 40 spotted bass, the bass are starting to school (caught several in one place),the crankbait was the lure 10 to 20 foot deep,I had the limit before 10 am. Looks like the water is down 7 to 8 feet. Seen a nice whitetail Buck bedded down,he didnt run just looked at me. The water temp was 63 to 64.Not much topwater action the bass are in deeper water. I did catch bigger bass on 3/4 spoon midday.Days like today when the bass are biting,it dont get much better.Find the rocks and humps you will fill your live well. See You on the Pond< Tracker

Sounds like a good day to me! i have been trying to get better using a spoon but have only caught a few yellow perch on it below the martin dam. Do you just locate fish on your graph and drop to them or taget specific depths? just curious if you had any tips or suggestions. thx

Ok, I'll help.  Want to catch spots on a spoon, here's how.  Advise kinda depends on where you fish.  Camp Alamisco,  just a island/peninsula west of the CR 34 boat ramp.  You will find schooling spots, and a few stripe; early is best, but have been on them at 1500hrs in August, 90 degree weather.  If you look at a topo map, will see  main channel @ 100' rapid rise to the point.  So, get a few "kastmaster spoons from wallmart, think 3 /16oz but the little guys with a skirt is cool..  Lighter spin tackle, watch for them  bust shad and go for it..  Long casts to the school and fairly aggressive jjg retrieve, high rod lift, and flutter back.   Of course, keep in touch with the spoon.  Plastic swim baits work well also, and the good old Rapella/whatever crank bait that looks likesmallershad will get them..  

Guess I'm in deep 'doo doo' now with a lot of my fishing buds, they may object to me sharing this 'top scecret' stuff, but hey, it has not been a well kept secret..  They will get over it and there are a bunch of fish out there..

My place is pretty close to union boat ramp so that is sounds like an excellent place to fish try it out. Thanks for the speedy reply and generous info! I just had stuck to the old stand- bys (Jig, worm, jerkbait) for the past few years and would like to expand on that spoon bite. Will give it a shot and let uou know how I do ! look forward to this christmas holiday, will be on the water alot.
