I am new to owning on a lake, while I have had a boat and visited many many times over the years having a shoreline to enjoy and evidently worry about (with kids) has me worried:

Interesting, but no mention of why the bacteria is around lakes, or even if it is only found around lakes. Maybe this teen is just more susceptible to that particular bacteria. What's your alternative? Live in a plastic bubble. Enjoy the lake; it probably won't eat you. Or, you could go to a few lakes in Alabama that will eat the hide right off you.

my concern is around curious kids, I have 5 kids, one is autistic and struggles sometimes with direction and right from wrong.

I agree, we will enjoy the lake and not go bubble...
