Saturday morning was a dandy with 60 degrees, sunshine and no wind. We scouted from Kowaliga to Needle Eye looking for a 'lost tribe' of stripes and had several large, solitary marks that may have been line sides. At one point a medium heavy Ugly Stik bent double but the fish was gone before we could grab the rod. Maybe a stripe, maybe not. We'll likely have to wait until May for them to start showing up around Big Kowaliga in good numbers.
The water was stained to varying degrees with Oakachoy being the worst of it. Parker Creek was better. Water temps were 46-48 degrees and we did note some dead shad on top most likely due to those extremely low temperatures. However, deeper water was holding some good size bait schools and we did manage to land a couple nice (2.5-3#) spots mid-morning. One observation we noted was that whenever we were in areas with less that 25' of water depth, there were almost no marks on the Lowrance. Everything we saw was down around 30', bait included.
There was a tournament going on, but I can't tell you how the bank beaters were doing other than to say that they sure were burning a lot of gas. ;0)
Good luck out there and let's hope that we've seen the last of the really cold weather.

Thanks for posting the water tempature. I live away from the lake, and would like to keep an eye on the progression of the spawn.
Thanks again

Beautiful day out there today. Sunny and mild once again. Water temp was 51-52 and moderately stained heading toward the dam from Kowaliga. We didn't mark a lot of fish in that area and the bite was nearly nonexistant. However, we had the unusual experience of running across a flock (10-12) of American While Pelicans taking a rest on Wake Island. Yes, pelicans and no, we weren't drinking. I've got a couple pics with the bridge in the background for reference. Send me an email and I'll forward them but I don't know how to post them here.

Sounds like a nice weekend at the Lake. I'm in Jersey and just cleaned 2 1'2" of snow off my deck. Our Ocean Temp is 38 Degrees and the Polar Bears took a dip Yesterday, not sure if they are crazy or have Cabin Fever. I'm waiting for Spring up here and a return trip to the lake to fish. I always do good with Spots and Kentucky, Stripes have eluded me except for the 20 pounder I lost off the dock in low water with a cup of cofee in my other hand. We're in Suzanna Slough trying to sell Mom's House at the distance is to Great, 16 hour ride to enjoy REAL life. Missing the lake, Just Saying.
