I subscribe to Eastern Fly Fishing Magazine, there was a nice mention on page 24 of the May / June 2014 issue. It talks about Lake Martin being  "sleeper" lake for fly fishing for stripers. It gives a few tips and mentions guides David Hare and Jim Paramore. It was a nice article, written by Pete Elkins. Does anyone know / fished with Pete Elkins? I would love to talk to him some more. Thanks!

Pete Elkins has been writing for many years on freshwater striper fishing. He really knows his stuff. It is interesting to Google is name and read some of his writings.

Mr. Elkins emailed me back, but I didn't get a whole lot of info that wasn't in the article already so I didn't write a follow up. Since June, I recently saw in the Feb / March 2015 issue of Fly Fishing Magazine, Lake Martin got a mention. The article was about "temparate bass" - ie stripers, hybrids, white bass, etc. It said that Alabama was the #1 state for them, and that Lake Martin was good for stripers (although it made an error and said we were in the Coosa River system instead of Tallapoosa).
