It?s a city with a rich timber history (evidenced by the 31-foot-tall Paul Bunyan statue presiding over the waterfront) and a flourishing arts and culture scene. An hour and a half from Bangor is Moosehead Lake. True to its name, the Moosehead Lake area boasts some of the finest moose watching in the country. Moosehead is Maine?s largest lake and a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Gaining popularity at the end of the last century, the area continues to be a place whose hospitality is rivaled only by its beauty. Annual festivals in Moosehead Lake run the gamut from Moosemania in the spring to Snowfest in the winter featuring a 100-mile sled dog race.
